Despite the semester being over and facing final exams, Reina Akamatsu, Raja Venkatapathy Mani and Prof. Robert Hernandez headed south of the border in the early hours to capture the caravan of migrants that had walked from Central America in hopes of seeking asylum in the United States.
Literally working 24 hours (from 4AM to 4AM), they produced an “immersive postcard” for NPR that generated more than 267,000 views on their Facebook page.
They produced a second, multi-scene story they was published the following day. They also shared their footage with other news organizations in support of collaboration.

The small JOVRNALISM team used two Z Cams, three Samsung Gear (originals) and stitched using SGO’s Mistika VR to turn around the piece as quickly as possible.
